10 Things to Consider Before Going In For a New Website Design

Right from the start you should know that most big companies and the biggest websites will have a new website design every few years. In most cases it is not a change from the ground up. Many times it is rather a superficial change such as altering the colors, a few graphics, a few fonts or the logo. In other cases it is a big change to eliminate some of their more bothersome problems. Here are ten things you should consider before going for a new website design yourself.

1 – Do you have the skill and time to create a new design?

Make sure that when you do create your new design that it is all done offline. Do not make the mistake of taking your website offline and then trying to create it one page at a time. It all needs to be done offline and that is going to take time and skill which you may not have in abundance.

2 – Do you have the time to do a big bug hunt?

A bug hunt is imperative when creating a new website design because your website is going to be loaded with bugs. It is the same with any new piece of programming. You cannot be sure what parts will work correctly until it is up and running, and even then there are problems with compatibility or problems getting something to work on one platform as well as it works on another.

3 – Will your current viewers have a problem with the new redesign?

This is not a loaded question. There is a chance that your current design is not well loved and there may be quite a few people who would welcome a new design. On the other hand, your current design may be loved by your loyal viewers and they may resent the idea of a new design. They may become quite territorial about it all.

4 – Can you improve the navigation on the website?

This would give you a very good reason to come up with a new web design. If you can improve thenavigation on your website then you will also improve your bounce rates, your SEO, and people will be more likely to spend longer on your website.

5 – Is it time your website had a responsive design?

There is no law saying that you have to have a responsive website, but if you are looking into getting one then you should know that converting a website into a responsive website is a lot harder than building one from scratch. If you are going to have a responsive website, then you may as well couple it with a brand new website design.

6 – Is the current design stale and old fashioned?

Websites and their designs may go out of fashion and if a website starts to look old then it is often considered to be cheap and therefore untrustworthy. If your website is becoming stale or old fashioned then it may be time for a redesign.

7 – Do you need a redesign in order to tighten and update the web code?

As you renew and refresh the content of your web pages, you often create little snippets of extra code, superfluous code, or even create a few little bugs. If you have a redesign of your website then you can renew all of the code and repair the potential damage you have done to your website over the years.

8 – Will your current web content lend itself well to your new design?

The type of content and its amount is going to have to be placed onto your new web design. Is it going to be possible for your current website content to fit into your new design, both on an aesthetic level and on a technical level? Obviously if you are faced with this problem, then you could just change your new design to make it more suitable.

9 – Can you make the website more efficient and usable?

If you can make your website more efficient then that is going to help stop people from bouncing from your website and it is going to help you rank up through the search engine results pages too. Being more usable will help you rank up through the search engine results, and it may help to keep people on your website longer and help them to convert into buyers too.

10 – Will a new design cure some of your browser or device compatibility problems?

If you are already having browser or device compatibility problems, then a new design may help you to overcome them. That is going to help you quite a bit and so is a great reason to go for a new website design. You can test each design on numerous browsers, operating systems and devices before you upload it as your new website design.
